I’m often asked about products that I like…from supplements, to convenience foods and protein powders, to baby products, so I thought I’d give you my two cents about diapers, because I freaking love Honest Company and their amazing diapers! And, better yet, they’re not paying me a dime to tell you any of this (but hey, Honest Company, if you want me to try out any of your other products and talk about them for a dime or two, well, I’m all yours!).
Anyway, our journey into the world of diapering began roughly 16 months ago… When Landon was weeks away from being born, I thought we should, like, register for stuff and maybe even have a few supplies and clothes and stuff on hand for when he made his grand entrance into the world. I think we got a pack ‘n play with a bassinet on top maybe five days before he was born. We were not exactly on top of things here, but I figured there were babies all around the world perfectly happy to be swaddled and put in, like, a laundry basket with some blankets. (But, as my aunt told my cousin’s wife who had, more or less, the same philosophy, “It’s not a litter of kittens!”) Okay, okay. I get it. I should get a few things. I’m not what you call a “baby person” so I was horrified to think of my house overtaken by “baby stuff.” But, you know, babies don’t come out potty trained. That’s something you have to teach them. Diapers? They are necessary.
I thought that, being the crunchy person that I am, I should go the cloth diaper route. Hubsters said, “Please no.” Now, Hubsters did not have a ton of opinions on babies and the way we would do things (including being 100% on board with a home birth for baby #1, folks!), and I suppose any of those few opinions that he did actually have, we agreed upon (like not co-sleeping as one example). If this was his one thing, I thought I should probably let him have his way. (And then I started reading about how you have to install this little diaper sprayer onto your toilet to spray the poop into the toilet, and, well, I was sold on disposable diapers. Ew.)
So, I started looking for some healthier options, because I did not want chemicals, perfumes, dyes, etc. touching my son’s private parts 24/7. Some of the ingredients commonly used in the most popular of diaper brands are known carcinogens and contain heavy metals. Yikes!
Here’s why I chose Honest Company as my healthier, disposable diaper of choice.
- They are free of perfumes, chlorine bleach, and latex, and use plant-based inner and outer layers, naturally derived odor blockers, and less sodium polyacrylate. Winning!!! Now, I’m willing to admit that if you want to really, really make sure your diapers of free of yucky stuff, you should probably go the cloth diaper route, but I’ve already explained why we decided not to do that. Also, there are probably a few other brands of disposable diapers that are more “natural” than these diapers. The one other brand that I did try in the “crunchy” department of diapers I wouldn’t have trusted to hold up against some of Landon’s more epic blowouts. So, I feel like, practically speaking, Honest Co. made a better diaper comparable in performance to the well-known and well-loved popular brands with way less bad stuff.
- They ship to my house for less than I could buy them at the store!! I pay $80 for 6 packs of diapers (in the prints of my choice!) and 4 packs of wipes (about $25 cheaper than buying all of that at Target). They arrive on my doorstep every 4 weeks (although 5 and 6 week autoship plans are also an option). If I find that I have too many diapers or wipes leftover before my next shipment, I just suspend shipment until I’m ready for the next batch, and I’m not charged until they ship. Easy peasy.
- They hold up great against leaks and blowouts. I’ve heard some people say that they work better for some little bottoms than others, so I’d recommend getting a Discovery Kit first, to see if they work well for your child. You get 7 diapers and 10 wipes for the cost of tax & shipping. Sign up here.
- Their customer service rocks my socks off and keeps me one happy customer. I get free gift promos all the time, and I get to go in to my account and select a fun gift to be sent with my diapers (i.e. one of their other products that I’ve been wanting to try). I got this cool, face moisturizing spritzer for Mother’s Day. And here’s the best part. Did your baby magically change diaper sizes seemingly overnight? No problemo. Honest Co. will take those unopened packs of diapers back, immediately ship you some new diapers in the correct size, and email you a shipping label to send back the now-too-small diapers. Way to make it easy on me, Honest Co.! I’m all about efficiency.
- They are ridiculously cute. I mean, seriously. You will suddenly LIKE changing diapers. I plan out which adorable diapers he will wear for which occasions, because it’s just fun!! And, hey, if you have better things to do with your time, leave it to the team at Honest Co. because all the designs are adorable. I mean, if these pictures haven’t convinced you yet…you should probably just try them on your own little one!
How ’bout you? Have you tried Honest Company’s diapers? Are you in love with them as much as I am?
