If you’re looking for easy natural detox protocols to reboot your whole body, look no further. Rather than a couple days of “cleansing” that leave you drained and mentally burnt out, you can continue these protocols for years to keep your body functioning at its very best, clear of the toxins that make you sick and tired.
When I first got my cancer diagnosis and began jumping into learning all about it (and all the alternative treatments that so many people have used to treat it), I started running into the same overarching principles over and over again. One of those words I kept running into (no matter how the doctor recommended you do it) was “detox.”
This is sort of a cheap word nowadays in the world of health and wellness. It’s so trendy to “detox.” Most people think of this as a very short-term “cleanse” that is very difficult, totally disrupts normal life, and causes you to lose 5-10 pounds quickly (which you usually just gain right back!).
The detox idea I’m speaking of requires a little bit of persistent work over a long period of time for results that last! I mean saying goodbye to chemicals, molds, parasites, metals, and viruses that cause subtle, underlying health problems. These aren’t things that clear the body in a week. They take time. However, I’ve found my detox protocols to be rather enjoyable! Yes, they are time intensive, but they make me feel great. So great that I keep on doing them!
How I Got Here…
I didn’t look sick to other people. In fact, I was everyone’s “healthy friend” who already did all the weird stuff and was careful to nourish my body with what went into my mouth.
And then I received a cancer diagnosis and subsequently had a CT scan checking for any more cancer in my head and neck. And then, wanting to detox from the CT (the equivalent of about 100 chest x-rays in radiation not to mention the contrast die they injected into me), I went to a chiropractor’s office to use his infrared sauna.
Sitting in that sauna, reading Chris Beat Cancer, I thought, “what a waste of fifty bucks. I’m not even sweaty.” And then on the way home I tasted metal in my mouth. And I felt absolutely lousy for the next 24 hours. So tired. Feeling like I was getting the flu. The only thing that seemed to help was exercise (to keep sweating out and moving out the toxins). I had NO IDEA how much junk was built up in my body.
If you’ve got an environment inside your body that is growing/has grown cancer, you’ve got to rehaul your system. You’ve got to get the junk out so that your immune system can recognize your cancer and get rid of it.
This is not an exhaustive list by any means, and I’ve still got a long way to go, but this is where I started.
My Easy Natural Detox Protocols
Infrared Saunas
I am now officially obsessed. While I really enjoyed the infrared sauna and foot detox baths that I did at the chiropractor’s office, at $50/visit I needed an at-home option. I bought this infrared sauna bag and laid in it for a good, sweaty nap (and Marco Polo with my friends who got to see me all sweaty and lovely looking) for 45 minutes three times per week. This is LOVELY and SO relaxing! I plan to use this thing regularly even after I’m done with cancer. Especially on days when I take off from working out. Then I can still get a great sweat and all I did was nap!
Red Light Therapy
I’m employing a different frequency of light (shorter) than the far infrared that I use with my sauna. This frequency of red light does not create heat, but it does up regulate your cells. I’m still on the fence as to whether or not to actually “treat” the area of the body that contains the cancer. Some people say definitely, some people say probably not. I err on the side of caution and actually cover my neck with a thick, fleece neck warmer while I do my treatments to keep the red light off my thyroid. However, I do treat my gut and thymus gland to boost my immune system. I try to do this at least one time daily for 10-12 minutes. (Side note: I also use this on my face to fight wrinkles, on my scalp to regrow my hair lost from thyroid difficulties, and my ankle to treat an old running injury! It has SO many uses!)
Coffee Enema
Probably my favorite detox protocol. It’s so surprisingly great and makes you feel fantastic. I’m pretty sure I’ve passed parasites doing this. I actually did coffee enemas prior to my diagnosis, but afterwards I started doing them more diligently. I did a coffee enemas one time per week, but I’m actually considering increasing my frequency to one time per day! It seems like a lot, but I think it could be necessary for a little while.
Magnesium Baths
I love these, too! (Are you seeing a trend here? “Detox” protocols are either relaxing or energizing and usually quite pleasant!) I do these on Sunday nights, but I’m also considering upping my frequency of these baths to 3-4 times per week. I read on my (waterproof!) Kindle, and then slip into bed for a relaxing sleep!
Parasite Cleanse
I have not done this yet, but I want to and think it could be very helpful! Some functional medicine doctors believe that viruses, molds, metals, and parasites are at the root of nearly all diseases. That was very startling to me when I first read that, but now it is making more and more sense to me (particularly as I have detoxed from metals and been surprised by my “findings” after coffee enemas…I’ll spare you the details!). This is the cleanse protocol that I would like to do.
Metal Chelation (Zeolite Spray)
This one also rocked my world! It seems like you’re just spraying water into your mouth, and you feel nothing. And then I had quite a lot of detox symptoms about a month into using this! The zeolite clings to any negatively charged particle (namely metals but also some chemicals like glyphosate), encapsulates it, and then it gets eliminated via urine. Apparently yeasts and parasites feed off of metals, so when those metals get pulled out, the yeasts and parasites die off for lack of food. Die off symptoms can feel a lot like really bad “alive” symptoms except that they go away for good!
Juicing
Lots and lots of fresh veggie and fruit juice. I didn’t really consider this a “detox” protocol for a while, but now I do think it, inadvertently, has a detox effect. When you flood your body with TONS of nutrients (mega doses of veggies that would take you all day long to chew!), it can really give some love to those organs in your body that do lots of detoxing (think liver and colon). This looks like A LOT when you write it all out, and it is. If I wasn’t dealing with cancer, I might do a little less with each of these things, but honestly the fact that they make me feel SO GOOD keeps me going. I will probably do most of these things for the rest of my life, just probably with less frequency when I’m able.
Here’s a pin for later…
